Saint-Michel-de-Cuxa Abbey – Prades

Just outside Prades, in the commune of Codalet, the Abbey of Saint-Michel-de-Cuxa is easily recognizable by its four-tiered Romanesque bell tower. Monks settled there in 878, and the abbey church was consecrated in 974. Part of the cloister, with its pink marble capitals, was dismantled after the French Revolution and is now housed in The Cloisters museum in New York. In the summer, the abbey hosts concerts as part of the Pablo Casals Festival.
